  • How to Make Money from a Podcast

How can I make money from a Podcast? It's one of the questions that many podcasters ask themselves, whether it's before or during their podcasting journey, so, how do you make money from a podcast? Is it possible to make money from podcasts? Yes, it is possible to generate money from your podcast. How do I make money from my podcast? The main ways to make money from your podcast are to either get a sponsor or become an affiliate marketer. Making money from a podcast sponsor Firstly, it's important to note that typically, podcasters will only be eligible for sponsors when they're accumulating over a thousand plays per episode - although there are exceptions, we'll cover this later. This is because sponsors usually work on a CPM basis, meaning that they'll pay a figure based on how many thousands of downloads you have. Podcast hosting site, Anchor FM, suggests that the typical CPM for podcast sponsors is $15 But what about those exceptions we mentioned? Well, you may be fortunate enough to know of a brand that will work with you no matter what your numbers are, perhaps as a result of your good relationship or the seeming potential of your show. Your sponsor will expect you to embed 1 or 2 messages into your show that promote their offerings and you'll typically receive an exclusive discount code that you can share with your audience. They will typically pay you a set amount for a set amount of promo messages. Making money as an affiliate marketer The second most popular way of making money from a podcast is affiliate marketing. Isn't that the same as a sponsor? Well, it's similar, but the main difference is that in this case, you could be selling a product on behalf of a company that doesn't even know you exist! For example, there are many affiliate marketing programmes that you can sign up to, that allow you to receive a commission on every sale that stems from your podcast - a special link will normally be needed to place in your podcast show notes to prove that the sale came from your show. Amazon have an affiliate marketing programme that allow you to earn up to 12% on every sale that stems from your podcast When should I start aiming to make money from my podcast? So now that you know how to make money, the question then becomes, when should you make money from your show?! Now, most people would suggest that you should aim to make money ASAP, but don't forget just how difficult it is to keep the respect of your audience - 1 bad episode can deter a previous fan for good. Instead, perhaps you should gain the trust of your audience first, as well as growing your numbers so that when you approached (or get approached by) a sponsor, you will be able to get a credible and - most importantly - valuable sponsor that will truly benefit yourself and your audience. For example, you wouldn't want to sign a sponsorship deal or be pushing a product that is completely unrelated to your audience, such as promoting an alcohol company to your audience of teens! If you found this to be useful, please do support our show (the 'If Only They Knew' podcast) as every week, we release a conversation with young business minds from across the UK.

Next Up 2021 - Top Young Entrepreneurs to watch in 2021 Jackson Quinn & Charlie Morgan From this duo, you may recognise Charlie from the TV, when a younger Charlie was kicked by footballer, Eden Hazard, for hogging the ball in a bid to help out Swansea FC in 2013. Grace Vella A younger Grace Vella made the decision to follow her passion for football and bring along as many female footballers as possible. Being a footballer herself, Grace noticed that there weren't that many opportunities for female players, but there was a lot of judgement towards them. This is the reason why Grace founded MissKick, a group that works to "unite the female football community under one representative brand and platform". Starting off by selling merchandise at her local club, Grace has very quickly evolved the brand into a movement that is helping female footballers across the UK. Lewis Baxter Lewis Baxter has become an inspiration for many young people across the UK. • The Law of Attraction Explained by Science

What is the Law of Attraction and is it backed by Science? The Law of Attraction The Law of Attraction is a phenomenon that has commonly been referred to as the secret of life, thanks to the iconic book, 'The Secret', which amassed $300 million in sales in 2009. Put simply, the Law of Attraction is the idea that we can manifest anything that we focus our minds on - good or bad. Many people believe that this is the reason why people that always focus on negative circumstances, tend to end up in negative circumstances and vice versa. For example, if somebody is constantly worrying about crashing their car, it is often those people that end up crashing their car...OR...those that obsess about a particular car, are the people that tend to get what they set after. But thus far, this seems like just a theory right? Correct. HOWEVER, here is the science behind it all. The UK's #1 Unconscious Mind Therapist, Robert Hisee (AKA the Hypnotist Man), spoke to us on the 'If Only They Knew' podcast to reveal some of his studies. The Science So, how does the brain help us to attract specific things into our life? Well, within the brain, there is a network of neurons called the Reticular Activating System (RAS) which is understood to be the 'thing' that signals to our body whether it's bed time or not. However, we now understand that this filter for your brain has a bigger role, which scans your environment for the information that you think about, which, if you scroll up, is exactly what the Law of Attraction is seen to do. You can put the RAS to the test right now in multiple ways... Have a look around your room, think about how much you're seeing and how little you consciously take in and can remember. This is where the RAS comes in as there's no way it could relay all of this information to you - your brain would explode! Now, take a look at a certain part of your room...think of a specific colour....your brain instantly points it our right? THAT is the RAS at work. How do the 2 combine? As we now know that the brain actively scans vast amounts of data every second and that the RAS picks out key information for you, how does this link to the Law of Attraction? Think of something you've wanted for a long time, say for example it's a car...as soon as you get the idea into your head that you want this specific make of car, what do you see all of the time? I guarantee that almost everyday you're on the road, you see this specific car drive past (again, the RAS is pointing out this car for you). So, because the RAS is constantly pointing out this car to you, it is therefore more likely that you'll be susceptible to additional information about this car. For example, you drive past a showroom that you would've normally ignored, but now that your RAS is scanning the world for this car, you notice it out the corner of your eye, parked in the store front. You then turn round out of curiosity and THEN you notice the big sign in the shop window that says "SPECIAL OFFER - TODAY ONLY!". And guess what? It's an offer for the car you want... You and the car have now been pulled 1 step closer to each other, and THIS is the Law of Attraction at work. Examples of the Law of Attraction Now that may seem like a pretty specific example, so where else has the Law of Attraction been implemented? Take 1 of the biggest sports stars of all time, Conor McGregor, the mixed martial artist that has been the poster boy for the UFC for many years now... Before finding fame, Conor always obsessed about entering the UFC and becoming a 2 weight champion and confidently made this claim to the world - over and over again! Many people believe that you must be pro-active in thinking about the things you want, but also that you should confidently announce it to the public or your peers - so that you have no doubt at all. And within just a few years, Conor not only entered the UFC, but he also claimed the 2 belts that he had been manifesting for a long time. This is proof that the Law of Attraction works for those who obsess and have complete belief in their desired outcomes. What to do now?! With the information that you now hold, go forward with the undying belief and desire for the things that you want. Perhaps get a vision board or journal to help remind yourself of the thing that you're manifesting and I assure you, if you truly believe, it will come. Good luck and I hope you get it all.

  • Grace Vella, Founder of MissKick

If I asked you to name any sport in the world, one of the first sports that would come to your mind would probably be Football and you'd probably imagine male players running around the pitch as it's only very recently that women's football really came to the public's attention. This is why I believe it's so important to support anybody who is championing women's football and one person doing just that is Grace Vella. Grace Vella is the young entrepreneur that is helping to push women's football via her company 'MissKick' which is the UK's first female football brand. "The MissKick brand is all about changing perceptions and making girls’ and women’s football more mainstream. I want to see MissKick’s products in shops all over the world” Starting in 2018, Grace began selling branded apparel at her Dad's football tournament with the hope of drawing more women into football and simply uses the merchandise to drive her wider vision. "I had no massive plan, just a passion for the sport and wanting to make a difference" The founder admits that running the business can be challenging sometimes as she is practically a 1 man band and runs all areas of the business, from pitches to printing, but takes it all into her stride and looks forward to developing her skills. Grace has done a fantastic job in creating a real buzz around the business, turning the small stall to a massive community! Having been an academy player for Liverpool at age 13 and a member of Manchester City's reserves at 18, Grace really has put her heart and soul into driving women's football from such a young age. Speaking in a recent Youtube video, the footballer shares her advice for other aspiring female footballers: "You've got to work hard. The biggest thing I found when I jumped from grassroots to academy level is the speed, intensity and the fitness levels that you need to have" Looking forward, the football-fanatic aims to develop MissKick to be the world's leading female football brand, expanding out to run football academies, tournaments and coaching courses to help girls get involved and develop in the football world. • Vanflute: Switching Things Up in the Activewear Industry

Since the boom of gym wear brands such as Gymshark, many companies have entered this space in order to grab a piece of the pie. However, not many brands have actually provided value and solutions to everyday problems that gym-goers face. This is where Vanflute steps in. Vanflute is a brand new activewear brand (built by women for women) that is already switching things up in the industry with their multi-way clothing, allowing you to swap and literally rotate the way you wear their gym clothes. Take their sports bra for example, which is wearable two ways! You can either have the zip at the front or you can simply rotate it and sport the Vanflute logo on your chest - much like a fitness fanatic version of Superman. This new brand is brought to you by finalist of The Apprentice 2018, Camilla Ainsworth, who has also successfully changed the dairy-free milk game forever and is clearly looking to do the same in the activewear industry too! Camilla stated that the brand was brought to life as a reaction to the lack lustre activewear available in only socially acceptable colour pallets which have poor durability and can only be worn one way. "Thats why i created Vanflute with the vibrant, gorgeous colours as its just a finger up to society saying you should wear demure colours and not champion your body and celebrate it" The young entrepreneur is also"super excited to just keep f*cking the norms with the brand" and looking forward to finally providing vibrant and versatile sets to powerful women across the globe. You can shop the very first series of sets via their website and you can follow both Camilla and Vanflute on social media via the following links: Instagram: @vanflute Instagram: @camillaainsworth Twitter: @camillaainswor1

  • How Entrepreneurs Pivot During COVID 19

How Entrepreneurs Pivot During COVID 19 Given the current climate, many entrepreneurs across the globe have found that their product or service has been made redundant. The events industry has been one of the most impacted sectors since the lockdown occurred. For young entrepreneurs, Joe Taylor and Elliott Rayne, the lockdown has heavily affected their business as they run a bespoke events company called 'EJ Events' and had some of their biggest events planned for around this time (including a big contract with the Royal British Legion), which of course, cannot happen now due to the coronavirus lockdown. So, instead of admitting defeat, the duo decided that they will pivot and continue to provide a service to their network. Here's how they did that. For Elliott, he used his extensive knowledge of trading and cryptocurrency to not only invest himself, but to also help those looking to learn more. The young entrepreneur specialises in the market psychology and mindset, technical analysis, money management to name just a few. This is all run under his newly formed identity, the investment chef, which aims to change the lives of young people by providing them with the freedom of having additional streams of income. This educational ecosystem fills the gap that traditional trading gurus can't, teaching people how to profit from the crypto markets in an affordable and exciting way. For Joe, he has also put his extensive experience of working for a major marketing agency into fruition by developing his own social media marketing agency called 'E-Growth Media'. Based in Leeds, the agency helps small business with their Facebook and Instagram advertisements. This is a perfect time for Joe to be helping small businesses as many entrepreneurs are trying to get back to their feet during these hard times. It's great to see two young entrepreneurs showing such initiative and determination to pivot during the lockdown and continue to help others in similar positions to themselves. • Teenage Entrepreneur Helps the Vulnerable During Lockdown

Due to the current global climate, people around the world are losing their jobs and are having to think quick to pivot and create new ways of surviving. This is exactly what teenager Mike Andrew did after his work dried up... After losing the majority of his shifts at his day job, 19 year old Mike Andrew from Chester (England) decided that it was the perfect opportunity to change his work life and up the gears. Mike had the great idea of helping out the vulnerable by bringing the essential goods they need right to their door step. That's exactly how 'Runaround' was born. Runaround fills the gap in the delivery market as the surrounding areas to his neighbourhood cannot get access to some of the major delivery services that would normally be operating. The company operates with great efficiency and effectiveness, with Mike ensuring that he wears the correct equipment necessary (PPE) and even send out notifications by text! "We provide the ability to have anything local delivered within a reasonable amount of time the same day. Our customers use our online app to enter their order and delivery details in a few simple steps. Receiving texts as their delivery is accepted, collected and out for delivery. Currently, Mike is getting the stock himself from the supermarkets, but is looking to expand to allow him to supply all kinds of goods to the vulnerable people in his local area. His community are spreading the word about Runaround, which has now surpassed over 600 likes on Facebook alone. With the business showing so much success already, perhaps it could continue to operate even after the lockdown has ended as his speedy service and low prices have changed the lives of the people in his community. Either way, it's great to see so many people doing great things despite the negative circumstance we find ourselves in.

  • Top 5 Female Entrepreneurs in the UK

Top 5 Female Entrepreneurs in the UK As the Hub for Young Business Minds, we see so many great entrepreneurs everyday, so we thought that it's only right that (with the help of our audience) we compile a list of the top 5 female entrepreneurs that we have come across. So, in no particular order, here are our favourite female entrepreneurs... 1. Melissa Roberts Melissa Roberts is the 20-year-old entrepreneur that leveraged her passion of marketing to set up Beanie Media (a digital marketing agency based in the north of England) but went 1 further to create KidCrowd, a platform that allows for an easier, more meaningful way to give gifts to children. So not only is Melissa helping businesses with their marketing efforts, but the young entrepreneur is also building a powerful group that will help the kids of today's world. It is for this selflessness that Melissa finds herself on this list. "If you want it, do it. Don't let other peoples' opinion control your path" 2. Sabrina Stocker Well known for appearing on BBC's The Apprentice in 2018, Sabrina Stocker is the entrepreneur that turned her passion for tennis into a successful business (My Tennis Events). As well as running this company, Sabrina also goes around the country to speak in public about her story and advice for other entrepreneurs. Due to the COVID-19 situation, Sabrina thought fast to pivot and quickly set up an organisation called CCYP (Covid Community Youth Project) that provides opportunities for those made unemployed during this global crisis. CCYP will partner with local businesses that need staff but can't afford to pay full wages, providing these firms with people looking for work post-lockdown or those simply looking to learn and get work experience. And on top of this, Sabrina co-founded Shopping Slot, a platform that allows people to check the availability of supermarkets in order to leave the online shopping slots for those who need them the most. It is therefore Sabrina's ability to think quick and still provide value that has landed her on this list. "Find out what you love to do in your spare time & then think about how to make money. That way you’re building a business around something you are passionate about & therefore you’ll be more willing to put in the work" 3. Carrie Rose Carrie Rose was turned down when auditioning for The Apprentice in 2018, but within 7 months, built a specialist SEO and Digital PR agency (called Rise At Seven) worth £1 million! Part of the success of Rise At Seven has come from Carrie's thorough involvement in her industry, constantly keeping track of the latest digital PR and SEO trends and usually, Carrie and her team are the ones behind them. The entrepreneur's great insights has led her to build a powerful network of knowledgeable marketing fanatics. "First they watch, then they hate, then they copy. By then, you're onto something new" 4. Grace Beverley Grace Beverley is the 23-year-old who became a mega fitness influencer and entrepreneur - all whilst studying at uni! Starting off by documenting both her fitness and university journeys online, Grace's fanbase grew very quickly! The entrepreneurial mindset kicked in and Grace began providing workout plans and fitness advice to her very loyal audience. This then grew into 3 businesses that Grace runs today: TALA, Shreddy and B_ND. When B_ND was launched, 10,000 products were sold within the first 30 minutes of going live! Today, Grace is a bona fide influencer with millions of social media followers, but is also disrupting the fitness industry with her affordable and ethical gym clothing & equipment. “I looked into manufacturing to see how we could produce an affordable product, while still being ethical and we ended up making resistance bands and vegan barbell pads” 5. Camilla Ainsworth Camilla Ainsworth came to the British public's attention in 2018 when she appeared on The Apprentice and battled her way through to the final and was the reason behind one of the show's most famous memes as the candidate addressed Claude Littner (Lord Sugar's aide) with a "yoohoo". Unfortunately, this hilarious moment isn't the reason why Camilla is on our list, it is in fact for her exceptional branding and innovative business idea. After spotting a gap in the dairy-free alternative nut market, the entrepreneur took to her kitchen to create a low-sugar alternative, that we now know today as MylkPlus. With bright pink branding and cheeky graphics, the product is bound to catch your eye! The finalist has not only managed to create a product that stands out, but has also successfully leveraged the exposure that The Apprentice brought, hence why Camilla Ainsworth makes this top 5 list. "I think that you need to make sacrifices in order to make progress, you need to be passionate about the business you’re starting and therefore you need to eat, sleep and breathe it" There we have it, the most exciting female entrepreneurs in the UK! There are so many other great female entrepreneurs out there, but the 5 business women above were suggested by our audience due to their innovative and fast-thinking actions. • If Only They Knew Scarlett Allen-Horton, The Apprentice 2019 Finalist

Meet Scarlett Allen-Horton, Finalist on The Apprentice 2019 Scarlett Allen-Horton is a 32-year-old businesswoman and candidate on BBC's The Apprentice 2019. Scarlett has a track record of success, having a great run as a recruiter before then reaching the final stage of the process on The Apprentice 2019. I am an achiever. I have been the highest performer across every workplace I have worked within. There is, therefore, no surprise that the entrepreneur's business is a recruitment firm (Harper Fox Partners) as Scarlett has had over twelve years of experience in this field. This is something that Lord Sugar will be happy with as in the semi-finals, he shunned Lewis Ellis's business idea as he had no real experience in that field. As well as impressing Lord Sugar, Baroness Brady also had her eyes on the recruiter from day one of the competition as she said: When Scarlett walked into the boardroom at first, you could just tell - from the way she carried herself, her poise, her confidence - that she was one to watch The confidence and independence had been seen in Scarlett from a young age, moving out of her parent's house at age 16 and having a baby at aged 20. This must have been such a difficult period of time for such a young person, but it is clearly where Scarlett's strong character stems from. I left home and thought 'woah - I have to pay for a lot of things' - and if you don't work, you can't eat. Scarlett's journey is proof that everything happens for a reason, as in her early years, the situation may have been tough but it has all led up to this moment. Hopefully, the hard work and dedication pay off and the entrepreneur receives the £250,000 investment from Lord Sugar. Best of luck Scarlett!
